Top New Year’s Resolutions for Moms
As a busy mama, there’s always something that can be improved to ensure we’re living a quality life. Yes, sometimes it can be hard to do but that’s the beauty of creating annual resolutions.
This is the time when we review what worked, what didn’t and what needs to change. We then make these notes on our goals planner like this one to make sure we plan out our tasks with our end goals in mind.
Here are some mom New Year’s resolutions other mamas are making for this upcoming year.
1) Revamp daily routines
Personally, this year has been a big test on my “normal routines” as my baby girl came into the picture and disrupted it all LOL. However, I know it’s a work-in-progress and as my daughter gets older, our routines will need to adjust frequently.
The same is true for my growing son who is taking sports way more seriously. Plus, my husband needs attention too haha.
So in 2022, you can revamp your daily routines by being more flexible so that you don’t get upset or stressed out when things don’t go as planned.
You can do this by brain dumping weekly, planning out important tasks on your preferred calendar or Trello board and setting reminders so you don’t forget.

2) More family quality time
Spending more quality family time is definitely something I’m passionate about as our kids grow up way too fast. Our days can definitely get away from us and one day they’ll be all grown up.
So we definitely need to soak in every moment we can. And this includes spending time with our husbands too, even if it’s in the form of a simple date night at home.
Our family needs our love and attention too, and sometimes we just need a reminder to chill out for a bit and spend some time with them.

3) Better work-life balance
Improving your work-life balance is super important although I know it’s easier said than done. When you’re being pulled in two different directions, it could make you feel like you’re not succeeding at either one.
However, I strongly believe that maintaining a good balance is actually the key to you doing great at both without wearing yourself down which is why it’s a great New Year’s Resolution for moms.
Setting boundaries at work to leave on time is a great place to start, along with reviewing your work priorities and making a plan to get those done first.

4) Turn off “work mode” at home
Ever since I became a full-time work-from-home mom, I can definitely attest to this being harder than I thought LOL. When the laptop is literally 5 steps away at all times, it’s so tempting to go and just send a final email or get one “last task” done.
However, when we do this, we tend to go down a rabbit hole that’s hard to come out from. So similar to the above, we want to make sure we’re setting work-life boundaries even if our work is done from home.
Kayece from Raising Tiny Foodies says, “My New Year’s Resolution as a mom for 2022 is to be better at balancing work time and family time. As a solopreneur, every aspect of my business falls on my shoulders. As a creative person, it’s hard to shut off the “work brain.” A lot of times I find myself in “work mode” when I’m supposed to be in “mom mode.”
Can you relate? I know I can LOL. And that’s why implementing working from home with kid tips can be super helpful.
5) Be more present
Even though it may not seem like it sometimes, our kids have hawk eyes and are watching our every move LOL. How many times have you talked to your husband and your child just randomly chimes in when you didn’t even know they were listening?
I know this can’t just be my son haha. So it’s important that we make ourselves more present and connect with them throughout each day.
And when I say “be present,” I’m not just referring to being physically present. There’s a difference from you simply being there and you putting your phone down and truly giving your family your undivided attention.
Taylor with Positively Taylor says, “As a new mom, I am learning just how quickly our little ones grow up. My new year’s resolution for 2022 as a mom is to be as mindful and present as possible when I’m spending time with my son. I want to stay off of my phone (unless I’m taking cute pictures of him!) and be fully in the moment when I’m with him.”

6) Practice self-care
Now, I knowwwww this is something that many of us moms lack to do. Even recently I ran a short survey on my Instagram stories and was shocked to see how many moms don’t make time for themselves.
It may seem like we’re too busy or even selfish to take time to practice self-care, but in reality, it’s exactly what we need to stay sane.
And if this isn’t currently part of your daily routine, you can start off small by doing easy self-care tasks weekly.
This is exactly what Jasmyn with Just Jass is planning on doing too – “ My New Year’s Resolution as a mom is to have one day a week dedicated to taking care of myself and doing things for myself! As a mom of 2, I feel like me-time is a rarity and I want to get back to taking care of me so I can take better care of my babies!”

7) Teach our kids about faith and God
Prayer and God are very important in our home as well. We strongly believe that we wouldn’t be as blessed as we are without having made time for Him and His love.
Crystal with Simply Full of Delight says, “My New Year’s resolution as a mom is to make sure I am taking time to teach my children about God. I plan to achieve this by making sure we continue to gather together one evening a week to sing and read Bible stories together. We have done this for the past year and it has been a joy to see how many songs our little ones have learned and how their knowledge has grown.”
As children, they grasp and absorb everything we do and teach, making it the perfect time to get them involved with prayer, attending church and other biblical or Christian activities. This can even be something as simple as helping your kids practice gratitude daily.
8) Get more exercise
If I’m being completely honest, this is probably where I struggle the most. I used to be pretty good at exercising regularly but ever since I had my daughter, it’s been a lot harder to feel motivated LOL.
But it does make me feel a bit better that I’m not the only one haha.
Rachel with Glad to be Mama says, “As a mom, my New Year’s resolution for 2022 is to get more exercise, not only for my body but also for my mind. I want to set the example for my child that it’s essential to take care of yourself and continually challenge yourself to learn new things. To achieve my New Year’s resolution, I plan on including my son in regular exercise activities like walks or yoga.”
Starting small with regular walks can definitely lead the way to more intensified exercise routines. If you have a young baby like me, you can even try workout routines with babies. It’s a fun activity for them and a healthy one for you, making it a win-win.
9) Make side hustle income
Now I know that sometimes we wish we had just a little extra income so that we can live comfortably and pay for whatever expenses without worry.
However, starting a side hustle as a busy mom doesn’t come with its challenges.Cristina with What Does Mamma Say says, “I am aware that it is not going to be easy with a baby and a preschooler but I am confident that with perseverance, patience and organization it will go the right way.”
I love that she says it’ll take patience and organization because this is true for any side hustle you wish to start. And there are actually so many different ways you can make money from home.
You can start an Etsy shop like I did, learn how to start your own blog and so many more. So if you’ve been contemplating bringing in some extra cash to your household, this may be your sign to start.

10) Stop being a perfectionist
And last on this list of mom New Year’s resolutions is to let go of perfection. This is also coming from someone who can struggle with not being a perfectionist at all times too LOL. But the truth is, when I stopped chasing perfection in my home, things just naturally started to feel less stressful.
I know it can be super hard to do, especially when you’re delegating certain chores to your 8-year old who doesn’t sweep right (like mine). But done is better than perfect at times, and it’s okay if your house isn’t perfect 100% of the time.
Yes, there are certain things that do require you to be more careful and detailed with, but there are others that won’t kill you if not done properly. So aim to see what tasks you can let go of and delegate away so that you can focus on your other tasks and goals. Embrace the chaos mama.
3 Best Tips to Achieve Your Mom New Year’s Resolutions
In addition to the specific tips shared above for each of the mom New Year’s resolutions, these below can help you no matter what your 2022 goal is.
Here are the best three tips for achieving your New Year’s resolutions as a busy mom:
1) Make a plan
You know what your goal is and now it’s time to make a plan on how you’ll achieve it. This is where setting SMART goals comes into play.
Your goals need to be Smart, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic and Timebound.
Once you have defined your SMART goal, you can then make a plan on how you’ll achieve it. Think of small tasks that you can implement each day and write them out on your Goals Planner like this one here.
By writing out the tasks in your planner, it’ll help remind you to actually get them done and help you plan out your tasks with your end goals in mind.
2) Track your progress
We all know that life happens and can get in the way of our plans. For this reason, it’s super important that you keep track of your progress.
This way, you’ll know what’s working and what isn’t as you’re actively working towards your goal. The last thing you want to do is give up a few months down the road because you just couldn’t do it.
So take some time every two weeks or every month to look back and see if your plan needs to be updated.
3) Reward yourself along the way
Don’t forget to reward yourself mama. Goal setting is already the first step to actively making a positive improvement in your life, and not everyone does this.
Also know that little things and little steps should be rewarded too because everyone starts somewhere.
Did you finally get your meal planning done ahead of time this week? Awesome! Did you exercise 2 out of your 3 planned days? That’s better than none! Did you leave work on time one more day than usual? That’s a start!
Don’t be so hard on yourself and give yourself credit for the things you do accomplish. This will motivate you to keep going and follow through with your New Year’s resolution.
